John o' Groats Ferries from John o' Groats to Burwick (May
- September)
From Stromness ferry terminal: approx 15.8 miles
Turn right when leaving the ferry terminal and take the A965 towards Stenness. Drive through Stenness (watch for the Maeshowe tomb on your left at Tormiston Mill). Continue on the A965 through Finstown and onto Kirkwall. At the roundabout take the third exit onto Pickaquoy Road. This takes you past the leisure centre and supermarkets. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Junction Road and then the first left onto Clay Loan. At the top of Clay Loan, turn right onto Bignold Park Road (A960). Continue past the signpost for St. Mary’s (on your right), then turn left. Drive past Kirkwall Grammar School (on your left) and take the first right into Reid Crescent. Drive towards house with high-peaked roof and Kjarstad is the 3rd house on the right.
From Kirkwall Ferry Terminal: approximately 2.1 miles
Follow the A965 towards Kirkwall. At the roundabout at the Filling Station take the exit onto Pickaquoy Road. This takes you past the leisure centre and supermarkets. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Junction Road and then the first left onto Clay Loan. At the top of Clay Loan, turn right onto Bignold Park Road (A960). Continue past the signpost for St. Mary’s (on your right), then turn left. Drive past Kirkwall Grammar School (on your left) and take the first right into Reid Crescent. From St Margaret's Hope Ferry Terminal: approximately 15 miles
Follow the signs for Kirkwall. As you approach the town, you pass the Highland Park Distillery (on your right). Staying on the main road, signal right and continue until you reach a T junction. Turn right, then first left. Drive past Kirkwall Grammar School (on your left) and take the first right into Reid Crescent. Drive towards house with high-peaked roof and Kjarstad is the 3rd house on the right.
Getting there by Air
Fly British Airways (operated by Loganair) from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Wick or Sumburgh (Shetland) to Kirkwall (Orkney).
From Kirkwall Airport:
(Approximately 2.1 miles)Turn right when leaving Kirkwall Airport and drive on the A960 towards Kirkwall. Take the third right into The Meadows, and pass Kirkwall Grammer School (on your left). Take the first right into Reid Crescent and drive towards house with high-peaked roof. Kjarstad is the 3rd house on the right.
